K-POP Health Crisis: Rising Tide of Illness Among Idols Sparks Alarm, Fans Urged to Rally Support

Recent health issues of several K-pop idols have triggered growing concerns among fans, underscoring the need for their heartfelt support during these challenging times.

BILLIE SUHYEON

On June 15, Mystic Story, the agency of artist BILLY, announced that member Suhyeon will temporarily halt activities due to health problems, causing distress among fans. The official statement from Mystic Story read, “Our artist and member of BILLY, Suhyeon, will take a break from activities for a while due to health issues.”

The agency further explained, “Based on the advice from a medical specialist, we have determined that Suhyeon needs to rest and focus on her recovery. As a result, we decided to temporarily halt her activities, prioritizing her health and return.”

Mystic Story emphasized its commitment to Suhyeon’s treatment process and providing support to expedite her recovery. They apologized for the sudden news, which may have startled fans, and appealed for their understanding.

They concluded with a call to fans, “We need your support for Suhyeon’s speedy recovery. We ask for your continued encouragement for her.”

Red Velvet Joy

The world of K-pop has recently seen a string of health issues among idols. In April, SM Entertainment announced that Joy of Red Velvet will temporarily pause her activities due to health problems. Joy sought medical advice after struggling with maintaining her condition and was advised to take a break for treatment and recuperation.

IVE LEI

Around the same time, IVE’s Lei also had to temporarily halt activities due to symptoms such as heart palpitations and shortness of breath. Fortunately, her condition improved significantly by May, allowing her to resume activities.

SHINee ONEW

More recently, Onew from SHINee, who was preparing for concerts and activities for the 8th regular album, decided to temporarily stop his activities due to health issues. After undergoing medical examinations due to his continual deteriorated condition, Onew was advised to rest and receive treatment. Consequently, he decided to take a break from the recent concert and album activities. He assured his fans via social media that he would focus on recovering his health.

Other idols, including Giselle from aespa and Jennie from Blackpink, also showed signs of struggling due to health issues. It seems that their stamina may not be catching up with their relentless schedules.

While some have criticized Onew’s situation, such times call for encouragement and support rather than reproach. It’s important to patiently wait for these idols, taking their much-needed rest, to recover their health and return to their fans’ side.
